An Imam Transformed By God's Word

When Awali, a Muslim imam and community leader in northern Ghana, heard that his son had accepted Christ, he drove him out of the village. As the community's imam, he believed that allowing his son to remain under his roof would cost him both his position and his life.

This was the community OneWay Africa's Jesus Film Rider, Dela Revival, was preparing to reach with the gospel.

"I prayed for God to open their hearts to the Word and convict them through the Jesus Film and preaching," Dela said.

When he arrived, Dela asked the community leaders for permission to share the gospel and show the Jesus Film the following week.

To Dela's surprise, they welcomed him. Before leaving, he gave Awali a solar-powered audio Bible containing Scripture, testimonies, teaching, and worship.

Although Awali continued leading prayers in the mosque, he also began listening to the Bible. As he listened, God's Word began to change his heart and convict him of his sin.

When Dela returned the following week, Awali was leading prayers at the mosque. As soon as the service ended, he hurried outside to greet him and began inviting people to watch the Jesus Film.

Over two evenings, 200 people gathered to watch the film and hear Dela preach.

"We're supposed to receive punishment for our sin, but out of the love Christ has for us, He became sin and went to the cross," Dela said. "I let them know that anyone who calls upon Him will be saved. Anyone can be forgiven."

By the end of the outreach, about 120 people gave their lives to Christ, and Dela gave out as many audio Bibles as he could.

Awali also gave his life to Christ, but he has chosen to keep his faith private. If Muslim extremists in the community discovered that their imam had become a Christian, they would likely kill him.

Today, Awali longs to be reunited with the son he once rejected and driven away so they can worship the Lord together.

While Awali faces the threat of persecution, we praise the Lord that the new believers in the community have not experienced any, and they have already formed Bible-listening groups.

Please pray that they would grow in grace and in the knowledge of the Lord—and that more audio Bibles would be provided so even more people can hear God's Word in their own language.

"They are asking for more audio Bibles. Without financial support, we cannot move. I want to thank our supporters and encourage them. I want to say God bless them for their prayers and their support," Dela shared. "By the grace of God and by the help of the Holy Spirit, they should not be weary in what they are doing."

Provide the Gift of God's Word

Give today and provide audio Bibles for communities like this one. With each solar unit reaching an estimated 15 people, you could give 15 people the gift of God’s Word for just $25.

1,000 Audio Bibles En Route to Unreached

The team in Accra, Ghana, is currently loading 1,000 solar Bibleplus units with different languages so they can be distributed to unreached people groups without access to God's Word!

  • Please pray for the team as they prepare these units for distribution.

  • Pray that God would use them to spread the gospel and multiply disciples in least-reached communities.

  • Please pray that every person who receives one would treasure God's Word, grow in their faith, and joyfully share it with others.
