The Story God Used to Send a Pilot

For nine years, Andrew Stutton and his wife, Angela, served at a Haitian children’s home called Hands and Feet. Although Andrew had spent years preparing for missionary aviation, he set that dream aside to share Christ’s love with children growing up in a culture deeply shaped by voodoo and fear of evil spirits.
“He ordains our steps, and he knows what’s best for us. So, we put flying on the side.”
Andrew rejoiced in what God was doing through their ministry. But he never stopped wondering if God might one day call him back to aviation.
Then a catastrophic hurricane struck Haiti.
Two days after the storm, Andrew and Angela both read a news update from OneWay's Mission Network News about how Mission Aviation Fellowship pilots were providing relief in a region where internet and mobile services had been cut off.
As they read the story, Andrew sensed God calling him to leave Hands and Feet to become a Mission Aviation Fellowship pilot—bringing Christ’s love to isolated communities with little access to health care, education, supplies, and the gospel.
“In a lot of ways, it’s coming alongside those already working in the country, and being a lifeline of support so they can keep working,” Andrew said.
Today, Andrew serves as a missionary pilot in Haiti, where flying comes with significant risks. Gangs have shot at aircraft landing at the Port-au-Prince airport, and kidnappings are a constant threat.
Once, after Andrew flew a young man to Port-au-Prince, he learned the man had been kidnapped. Andrew connected with his mother, prayed with her, and helped her through the trauma. When her son was released, Andrew flew him home.
Andrew continues to pray that the young man—and others he encounters through his ministry—will come to know Christ.
Andrew’s story is a powerful reminder that when we share what God is doing around the world, He can use those stories to call others into His mission. Thank you for helping us tell these stories—stories that inspire people to discover their place in God’s bigger story, every day of the year.
