There were many nights when 2026 OneWay intern Sam Sofio thought he wouldn't make it until morning.
When Sam asked God in high school to use his life in full-time ministry, he never imagined spending 1,000 days suffering with Lyme disease.
His parents, who once watched him sprint across soccer fields, now watched as he struggled to breathe and walk.
As each day passed, Sam became broken and frustrated. He regularly cried to God, telling Him that he felt hopeless and didn't understand.
Despite his confusion and pain, Sam began to understand Christ's love like never before, and his doubt turned into strong, childlike faith.
“Lord, I’ve been trusting in You with all my heart, and You promised to make straight my paths, so would You please do that?” Sam asked.
A few months later, one of Sam's greatest dreams came true. He had always wanted to attend a Bible college, and through a Shane and Shane worship night at Cedarville University, he found his next step in life!
As a senior at Cedarville, Sam studies Professional Writing and Information Design and works as an editor for their student-led magazine, writing stories for God's glory!
Just last December, Sam saw another example of God's faithfulness and love toward him. Sam was invited to speak on the Department of Health and Human Services Lyme disease panel with Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Dr. Oz, state representatives, medical professionals, and patient advocates.
On the panel, Sam advocated for the many Lyme disease sufferers and shared his faith in Christ.
"I was stunned by God's sovereignty, lovingkindness, and faithfulness," Sam said. "I'm starting to have answers for the many times I asked God, 'Why?'"
This summer, God answered Sam's prayer to serve Him in full-time ministry through OneWay! He now joins our largest internship program yet, serving on the communications team.
Through intensive discipleship, Christ-centered community, and Great Commission work, Sam says this internship has changed his life!
"I don't have words for what this internship has meant to me! I've dreamed of doing this for more than 10 years," Sam said. "I've never felt more empowered to use my God-given gifts. The stories I hear from missionaries and write about have moved my heart! Because of this internship, I'm now confident in what God wants me to do for the rest of my life—to help mobilize the Church to reach those who've never heard of Jesus!"

Help interns like Sam reach the lost this summer!
We believe God is raising up a new generation of Kingdom workers. We're committed to the investment this requires, and we’ve asked the Lord to provide accordingly.
We are 75% of the way to fully funding the stipends, housing, and discipleship program for our 50 summer interns. Will you help close the gap of $88,829 to help raise up a generation on mission for Jesus? A gift of any size makes a vital difference.
