Equipping the Nations to Pray

“We know the only way God is going to move in power in our country is through prayer. But we don’t understand prayer very well. Can you help us?”

Earlier this year, an underground church leader in North Africa asked Chris Ruge, OneWay’s Vice President of Global Prayer Mobilization and Strategy, this heartfelt question.

In a country where Muslims who leave Islam to follow Christ face the death penalty, believers are longing to see God move—but they need help in strengthening their prayers. An estimated 2,000 to 3,000 believers follow Christ in this nation, where few are willing to go.

Chris spent seven hours a day training underground church leaders in the foundations of prayer, continually asking the Lord to direct their time together.

One of the most impactful moments came when Chris felt prompted to introduce a simple but powerful strategy: prayer walks around places in need of prayer.

“I live right next to the main prison in the country,” one leader said. “For the rest of my life, I am going to go on prayer walks around that prison regularly!”

A simple idea sparked a lifelong commitment to pray for his nation.

This is just one example of the hunger for prayer Chris encounters around the world. He believes the need could not be more urgent.

“Around 140,000 people enter eternity every single day without having a relationship with Jesus,” Chris said. “There is no problem in the world that even comes close to the magnitude of this one because it’s an eternal problem. God has ordained that His people should come together to ask Him to move in power for the expansion of His glory and His worship around the world.”

“The Lord has placed on my heart a desire to go to our brothers and sisters, sit with them, love them, and encourage them,” Chris said.

Through these visits, Chris comes alongside local believers to identify strengths and weaknesses in their prayer efforts and develop strategies to mobilize prayer throughout their nations.

This past year, through the prayers and generosity of OneWay partners, God opened doors for Chris to serve believers in Malta, Lebanon, West Africa, South Africa, North Africa, India, the United Kingdom, and the United Arab Emirates. He also trained believers online in many other nations.

As word spreads about the impact of these trainings, believers around the world are asking for the same opportunity to learn face-to-face.

Building Up Prayer Efforts in India

India is home to 1.4 billion people, many of whom live and die without ever hearing the good news of Jesus Christ.

Lasting transformation begins with God moving in power through the prayers of His people. That’s why Chris will travel to India to help believers strengthen their efforts to mobilize prayer across the nation.
