MY STORY
My whole life, I have been passionate about writing — anything from poetry, essays, fiction, creative nonfiction, you name it. And although I knew I wanted to attend college as a writing major, it was not until after high school that I knew I wanted to attend a Christian college as a way to apply my education to further God’s Kingdom.
This past semester, I began to envision specifically how to do this beyond college. At the last moment, I was hired this semester to work as a staff writer at Wheaton College’s student-led newspaper, The Record. Through this meaningful experience and engagement with others around me, the Lord has slowly called me to pursue writing as a form of ministry. I have learned that journalism is a powerful medium of spotlighting God’s work in the world and a poignant way of loving others well with honest, impactful reporting.
When I first discovered OneWay during my internship search, I was hooked. What originally spurred me to apply and
continually excites me as I prepare for my time at OneWay is the integration of writing with missions. This summer, I’ll be writing compelling articles that inspire prayer for global needs, telling stories from the mission field, and reporting on the impact of OneWay-supported work. This kind of Kingdom work has grown in importance to me as news outlets, media, and education continually depict a fallen world in desperate need of hope. This hunger for hope provides all the more meaning and drive for my time at OneWay, which will help me cultivate skills to spread hope through writing.
