Role Title: Director of Human Resources

Reports to: COO

 

Works Closely With: COO, Department Directors

 

Work Hours: 32 hours per week

Location: Chicago area ideal, remote considered

Summary:

 

We are looking for a Human Resources Director to attend to OneWay’s greatest and most strategic asset - its people, by championing a service-oriented, excellence driven, collaborative culture to advance OWM’s vision and mission around the world.


To provide human resources to the staff, fostering a positive, safe and thriving work environment and structure for the organization as a whole.

 

Responsibilities:

 

Human Resources:

  • Envision and enhance the function and operation of the Human Resource department at OneWay.

  • Develop and establish roles in the Human Resources team

  • Lead and champion a thriving culture based on OWM’s core values

  • Pursue relationships throughout the organization

  • Oversee the recruitment, selection and onboarding of new employees

  • Manage and develop HR processes according to organizational needs

  • Collaborate with Executive Leadership to create and maintain a functional and aspirational  organizational chart

  • Create, review and approve role descriptions

  • Collaborate with the COO regarding employee compensation and provide leadership and oversight to the entire staff benefits process.

  • Establish a volunteer program by identifying areas of need and mobilizing  volunteers to serve in these areas.

  • Provide leadership and management to employee development and relations, including annual performance planning reviews, employee development plans, employment law compliance, and employee recognition.

  • Provide oversight to employment policies, procedures, and the OWM Employee Handbook.

  • Serve on the leadership team and coordinate with the relevant ministries to support staff care initiatives

  • Oversee the member care ministry and team

  • Create and deliver leadership development and training, and provide counsel and training for ministry leaders/management staff.

  • Oversee the exit process due to separation, retirement or termination of employment

  • Collaborate with ministry leaders/management staff to transition and offboard employee

  • Conduct exit interviews

Shared Services:

  • Answer occasional telephone calls and emails from donors, partners or others, directing them to relevant staff.

  • Monitor office supplies and order new stationary, supplies, furniture and appliances as required.

  • Report office progress to COO and work with senior leadership to improve office operations and procedures.

  • Keep the organizational calendar up to date.

  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact positively with all staff, and strong desire to see the staff grow and flourish

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with solid organization, process, and planning skills

  • Knowledge of standard employment law is a must

  • Talent management, succession planning, benefits, terminations, corrective action, and personnel issue experience

  • Cultural competency and awareness, working with a diverse and global workforce

  • Experience with a nonprofit organization and/or mission-sending organization is an asset

  • Organization and the ability to multitask to complete a wide variety of tasks

  • Value attention to detail, excellence, and accuracy

Spiritual Life:

 

Must have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and agree with the OneWay Statement of Faith. 

 

Compensation Statement:

 

OneWay has various compensation models, including individual support-raising, stipends and salaried positions. Compensation is dependent on the individual and the position. Preference will be given to candidates who are willing to raise support, but others will be considered.
